In a significant move to tackle noise pollution and provide relief to students preparing for their 10th and 12th board examinations, the Bhopal district administration has imposed a ban on the use of loudspeakers and DJ systems, including at religious places, from 10 PM to 6 AM.

The decision, effective January 23, aligns with directives issued by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to regulate noise pollution.

Licensing for Sound Systems Made Mandatory

As part of the new order:

  • Owners of DJ systems, hotels, restaurants, and bars must now obtain licenses for using sound systems that adhere to prescribed decibel limits.
  • Violators of the noise regulations will face legal action under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Restrictions on Loudspeaker Usage

The directive emphasizes:

  • A complete ban on loudspeaker and DJ system usage between 10 PM and 6 AM across the district.
  • Only one sound system will be permitted on DJ vehicles.
  • Sound systems can only be used for a maximum of two hours between 6 AM and 10 PM, adhering to the Central Government’s ambient air quality standards.

Compliance with National Guidelines

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Bhopal stated that the order complies with national regulations aimed at curbing noise pollution and ensuring public welfare. This measure is particularly significant for:

  • Students preparing for board exams who require a quieter environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Ambient Air Quality Standards set by the Central Government.

Why This Order Matters

Noise pollution is a growing concern in urban areas, often impacting public health, particularly students, elderly individuals, and those with medical conditions. By implementing this ban, the Bhopal administration is setting a precedent for balancing social activities with public well-being.
