The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has partnered with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to launch the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET). The Centre will be housed at TERI’s Institute of Energy Transition (IoET), located at its Hyderabad campus.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, and Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana. The ceremony saw participation from senior officials of the Ministry of Power, BEE, TERI, and the Government of Telangana.
A Bold Step Towards Sustainable Development
Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal highlighted the significance of the Centre, stating:

Key Objectives of the CoEET
The CoEET is envisioned as a world-class knowledge hub, focusing on:
- Promoting Innovation and Research: Driving advancements in energy transition technologies and policies.
- Capacity-Building: Collaborating with corporates, industries, and academia to foster groundbreaking solutions.
- Global Partnerships: Aligning with national and international organizations to address global climate challenges.
Scope of Work and Initiatives
The CoEET will conduct research and initiatives across various sectors, including:
- Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Focusing on industries, MSMEs, buildings, transport, power, and mining sectors.
- Energy-Efficient Technologies: Advancing technologies such as:
- Motors and HVAC systems.
- Advanced boilers and smart manufacturing.
- Waste heat recovery systems.
- Policy Development: Supporting the formulation of:
- Building codes and energy performance standards.
- Appliance labeling and circular economy practices.
- Technological Integration: Incorporating advanced tools like artificial intelligence and real-time energy monitoring.
The Centre will also focus on enhancing energy efficiency in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, aiming to reduce losses and strengthen India’s energy security.
Operational Framework and Support
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will provide financial support for the establishment and operation of the CoEET, while TERI will contribute its existing infrastructure at the Hyderabad campus and oversee its operational management. A governing board, comprising representatives from BEE, TERI, and the Ministry of Power, will provide strategic guidance.
