The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has appointed Akash Tripathi, IAS (1998 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre), as its new Managing Director, a key move approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

Tripathi—currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power—steps into the MD role at a critical time. His leadership is expected to catalyze SECI’s execution of large-scale renewable energy initiatives, including green hydrogen, energy storage, solar, wind, hybrid projects, and offshore wind.

With this appointment, SECI’s leadership structure is solidified, with Santosh Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE, continuing as Chairman. Sarangi underscored that Tripathi’s appointment brings “dedicated leadership for execution at scale, tighter institutional coordination, and delivery across emerging priorities like green hydrogen, energy storage, and green energy projects”

As a central public sector undertaking, SECI plays a pivotal role in India’s renewable energy transition—facilitating competitive bidding and project development across solar, wind, green hydrogen, and emerging green energy segments
