The move strengthens the growing economic partnership between India and Australia while positioning Victoria as Kimbal’s regional hub for delivering next-generation smart grid technologies that will help utilities modernise electricity networks, integrate renewable energy resources, and accelerate the clean energy transition.

Expanding Global Presence

Founded in 2011, Kimbal has become a leading provider of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solutions, with more than 12 million smart metering endpoints deployed globally.

Its portfolio includes:

  • Smart electricity meters
  • RF-Mesh communication solutions
  • Head-End Systems (HES)
  • Edge intelligence platforms
  • Energy management solutions
  • AI-enabled cloud platforms

These technologies enable utilities to improve grid reliability, enhance operational efficiency, and provide consumers with better visibility and control over their energy consumption.

Supporting Australia’s Energy Transition

Kimbal’s expansion into Australia comes as the country continues investing in digital energy infrastructure to support:

  • Renewable energy integration
  • Electric vehicle (EV) adoption
  • Distributed energy resources (DERs)
  • Battery energy storage systems
  • Smarter and more resilient electricity grids

The new headquarters will allow the company to work more closely with utilities, energy retailers, and technology partners across Australia and New Zealand to deploy intelligent grid solutions that enhance network performance and improve customer experience.

Investment Expected to Create Skilled Jobs

The ANZ headquarters is expected to create around 50 highly skilled jobs over the next three years while bringing global expertise in smart grid technologies to Victoria.

The investment further reinforces Victoria’s ambitions to become a leading destination for advanced manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and clean energy innovation.

Strengthening India–Australia Technology Collaboration

The announcement reflects the deepening economic and technology partnership between India and Australia, following the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Australia, where both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in technology, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.

By choosing Victoria as its regional base, Kimbal is contributing to stronger cross-border cooperation in energy technology while supporting the region’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Leadership Perspectives

Commenting on the investment, Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, said:

“Victoria has a strong and enduring partnership with India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration between our two regions. Kimbal’s investment aligns with our India strategy and will strengthen Victoria’s position as a destination for advanced manufacturing, innovation and clean energy technologies. We supported Kimbal to establish its headquarters in Victoria because it will create around 50 skilled jobs, strengthen our energy grid with world-class smart grid expertise, and reinforce our leadership in an innovation-led energy transition.”

Dhiren Parmar, Country Head – Australia and New Zealand, Kimbal, added:

“Australia is one of the world’s most progressive energy markets, and Victoria offers the ideal ecosystem for innovation, collaboration and long-term growth. Our experience in delivering large-scale smart metering infrastructure across dynamic geographies positions us to support utilities in building more intelligent, resilient and sustainable electricity networks. Establishing our Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Victoria represents a long-term commitment to the country and reflects our confidence in the strength of the India-Australia partnership.”

Driving the Future of Smart Energy

As utilities worldwide modernise ageing infrastructure and integrate renewable energy at scale, demand for advanced digital grid technologies continues to rise.

Solutions such as AI-enabled energy management, smart metering, and edge intelligence are becoming critical for improving grid resilience, enabling real-time decision-making, and supporting the transition to cleaner energy systems.

Kimbal’s expansion into Australia positions the company to play a key role in helping utilities navigate this transformation while contributing to the development of more sustainable and digitally connected energy networks.

Looking Ahead

With its new regional headquarters in Victoria, Kimbal is well-positioned to support Australia’s evolving energy landscape while strengthening technology collaboration between India and Australia.

As investments in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and smart grids continue to accelerate, the company aims to help utilities build future-ready electricity networks that are more intelligent, resilient, and sustainable.
