The launch reflects VinFast’s broader efforts to strengthen its manufacturing footprint across Southeast Asia while accelerating the adoption of electric mobility solutions in emerging markets.

VinFast Expands EV Manufacturing in Indonesia

The VF MPV 7 rollout took place during a customer experience event in Indonesia, where VinFast showcased the vehicle’s performance, smart features, and spacious interior through test drives and interactive demonstrations.

According to the company, the first VF MPV 7 produced at the Subang facility represents an important step in its localization roadmap, aimed at improving competitiveness and increasing accessibility to electric vehicles for Indonesian consumers.

The Subang manufacturing plant was officially inaugurated in December 2025 as part of VinFast’s long-term regional manufacturing expansion strategy.

Focus on Local Production and Supply Chain Development

VinFast has been actively increasing local manufacturing capabilities in Indonesia to align with the country’s industrial localization policies.

The company previously stated that it aims to achieve:

  • More than 40% localization by 2026
  • Around 60% localization by 2029
  • Up to 80% localization from 2030 onwards

The strategy also includes building a broader supplier and supporting industrial ecosystem around the Subang manufacturing complex.

Industry experts believe localization will help VinFast:

  • Reduce production costs
  • Improve supply chain efficiency
  • Increase regional competitiveness
  • Support long-term EV adoption in Southeast Asia

VF MPV 7 Positioned as Family-Focused Electric Vehicle

The VF MPV 7 is designed as a seven-seater electric MPV targeted at family and urban mobility users.

The vehicle features:

  • Spacious seven-seat interior
  • Up to 1,240 litres of cargo space
  • Advanced infotainment systems
  • Smartphone connectivity
  • Fast-charging capabilities
  • Intelligent driver assistance technologies

According to VinFast, the vehicle is equipped with a 60.2 kWh battery pack offering a driving range of up to 450 km based on NEDC standards. Fast-charging technology allows the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in approximately 30 minutes.

The MPV is powered by an electric motor delivering:

  • 150 kW output
  • 280 Nm peak torque

The company says the model has been developed to meet the needs of modern urban families looking for affordable and technology-driven electric mobility solutions.

VinFast Strengthens Southeast Asia EV Expansion

The Indonesian rollout forms part of VinFast’s aggressive expansion strategy across Southeast Asia and international markets.

The Subang facility currently manufactures multiple EV models, including:

  • VF 3
  • VF 5
  • VF 6
  • VF 7
  • VF MPV 7

VinFast has also been expanding operations in:

  • India
  • Philippines
  • Indonesia
  • Global EV markets

The company has recently launched and opened bookings for the VF MPV 7 in India as well.

Indonesia Emerging as Southeast Asia EV Hub

Indonesia has become one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing electric vehicle markets due to:

  • Government incentives
  • Growing EV demand
  • Local manufacturing policies
  • Investments in battery and EV infrastructure

Global automakers and EV manufacturers are increasingly investing in Indonesia to build regional manufacturing and export hubs.

Analysts believe VinFast’s localization strategy could help the company strengthen its position against established competitors in the region’s rapidly expanding EV sector.

Conclusion

VinFast’s rollout of the VF MPV 7 from its Indonesia manufacturing facility highlights the company’s growing commitment to localized EV production and Southeast Asian expansion.

As electric mobility adoption accelerates across the region, localized manufacturing, supply chain development, and affordable EV offerings are expected to play a major role in shaping the future of the automotive industry in Asia.
