  • Rising Demand for Sustainable Cooling Technologies
  • Outlook

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Vertiv’s ability to support next-generation AI data centres, high-performance computing facilities, and large-scale digital infrastructure projects across global markets.

Expanding Thermal Management Capabilities for AI Infrastructure

The rapid expansion of AI applications is increasing power densities within data centres, creating greater demand for efficient cooling technologies that can maintain system reliability while reducing energy consumption.

By acquiring ThermoKey, Vertiv is enhancing its portfolio of thermal management solutions and expanding manufacturing capabilities, particularly across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

ThermoKey brings expertise in:

  • Heat rejection systems
  • Advanced heat exchangers
  • Dry cooling technologies
  • Sustainable refrigerant-compatible solutions
  • High-efficiency thermal management systems

These capabilities are becoming increasingly important as hyperscale data centres, AI factories, and cloud infrastructure providers seek to optimize performance while meeting sustainability goals.

Supporting the Next Generation of AI Data Centres

The acquisition aligns with Vertiv’s strategy of delivering integrated cooling architectures that address the unique requirements of AI-driven computing environments.

As AI models become larger and more computationally intensive, managing heat effectively is emerging as one of the industry’s most significant challenges. High-density computing environments generate substantially more heat than traditional data centres, requiring advanced cooling technologies capable of maintaining consistent operating temperatures.

ThermoKey’s technologies are already incorporated into selected Vertiv cooling solutions. Bringing the company fully into the Vertiv ecosystem will allow for deeper integration across thermal management platforms and accelerate innovation in cooling system design.

Commenting on the acquisition, Giordano Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv, said:

“Customers are scaling AI infrastructure at an unprecedented pace, and thermal performance is now a critical enabler of capacity and efficiency. With ThermoKey, we are strengthening our capabilities to deliver differentiated, integrated, high-performance heat rejection solutions that help customers deploy faster, operate more efficiently, and scale with confidence.”

ThermoKey Adds Three Decades of Engineering Expertise

Founded in 1991, ThermoKey has built a strong reputation in the thermal engineering sector through its specialized heat-exchange and cooling technologies.

The company’s portfolio includes solutions designed to support both performance optimization and environmental sustainability, including technologies compatible with low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants and natural refrigerant systems.

Its in-house engineering, research, and manufacturing capabilities are expected to enhance Vertiv’s ability to develop end-to-end cooling solutions tailored for modern data centre environments.

Italy Remains a Strategic Manufacturing Hub

As part of the acquisition, ThermoKey’s operations in Rivarotta, Italy, will continue to serve as a key centre for manufacturing, engineering, and customer support activities.

The company’s existing leadership team will also remain in place, ensuring operational continuity for employees, customers, and business partners.

Giuseppe Visentini, CEO of ThermoKey, emphasized the strategic alignment between the two companies, stating:

“Joining Vertiv means bringing our heat-exchange expertise into a complete, integrated thermal chain that serves high-density data centres. We share Vertiv’s engineering rigor and customer focus.”

He added:

“ThermoKey joins Vertiv on a path of sustained growth, and from Italy we will continue to build on that momentum and contribute to the strength of the group across EMEA and around the world.”

Rising Demand for Sustainable Cooling Technologies

Cooling systems account for a significant portion of data centre energy consumption, making thermal efficiency a major focus area for operators seeking to reduce operating costs and environmental impact.

The growing adoption of AI, cloud computing, and high-performance computing is accelerating demand for:

  • Energy-efficient cooling solutions
  • Advanced heat rejection systems
  • Sustainable refrigerant technologies
  • Modular thermal management platforms
  • Integrated infrastructure solutions

Industry analysts expect global investment in data centre cooling technologies to increase substantially over the coming decade as organizations expand AI capabilities and digital infrastructure capacity.

Outlook

Vertiv’s acquisition of ThermoKey highlights the growing importance of thermal management in the era of artificial intelligence.

As AI infrastructure scales globally, cooling performance is becoming just as critical as computing power. By integrating ThermoKey’s heat-exchange expertise into its broader technology portfolio, Vertiv is positioning itself to meet the increasing demand for efficient, sustainable, and scalable cooling solutions.

The acquisition also reflects a broader industry trend toward integrated infrastructure ecosystems that combine power, cooling, and digital management technologies to support the next generation of AI-driven data centres and high-performance computing environments.
