The project involves the development of a 150 MW/300 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and marks a significant step in strengthening Gujarat’s energy infrastructure while supporting the growing integration of renewable energy into the power grid.

The award was secured under GUVNL’s Phase VIII tariff-based competitive bidding process, which is supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).

Strategic Battery Storage Project to Support Grid Reliability

The BESS project will be developed near the 220 kV Bhesan AIS substation operated by Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO).

Once commissioned, the facility will provide dispatchable energy storage capacity, enabling grid operators to balance electricity supply and demand more effectively while improving the reliability of renewable energy integration.

Battery energy storage systems are increasingly being deployed across India to address intermittency challenges associated with solar and wind power generation.

By storing excess electricity during periods of high renewable energy generation and releasing it during peak demand, BESS projects help improve grid flexibility and energy security.

Long-Term Agreement with GUVNL

Under the terms of the agreement, Advait BESS Bhesaan will be responsible for developing, owning, operating, and maintaining the storage facility.

The company will provide contracted battery storage capacity to GUVNL under a 12-year agreement, ensuring long-term availability of energy storage services for the state utility.

The project is expected to play a critical role in supporting Gujarat’s clean energy transition and enhancing the resilience of the state’s electricity network.

Growing Importance of Battery Energy Storage in India

India’s renewable energy sector is witnessing rapid growth, with increasing investments in solar and wind generation. However, integrating large volumes of renewable energy into the grid requires advanced storage solutions to ensure reliable power supply.

Industry experts view battery energy storage as one of the most important enabling technologies for achieving India’s ambitious clean energy and net-zero goals.

Energy storage systems help:

  • Improve grid stability and reliability
  • Enable greater renewable energy penetration
  • Reduce curtailment of renewable power
  • Support peak demand management
  • Enhance energy security
  • Facilitate the transition to low-carbon power systems

As India continues expanding its renewable energy capacity, utility-scale battery storage projects are expected to become a critical component of future power infrastructure.

Advait Strengthens Energy Transition Portfolio

The latest project further strengthens Advait Energy Transitions’ presence in the emerging clean energy ecosystem.

The company has been actively expanding its footprint across multiple energy transition segments, including:

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Renewable energy integration
  • Green hydrogen infrastructure
  • Power transmission solutions
  • Next-generation energy technologies

By diversifying its capabilities across multiple clean energy sectors, Advait is positioning itself to benefit from growing investments in sustainable infrastructure and decarbonization initiatives.

Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals

The project aligns with India’s broader efforts to modernize its electricity infrastructure and increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix.

Government-backed initiatives, including viability gap funding support, are helping accelerate the deployment of battery storage projects by improving project viability and encouraging private sector participation.

As renewable energy generation continues to expand, battery storage is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply.

Outlook

Advait Energy Transitions’ 150 MW/300 MWh battery storage project represents another milestone in India’s rapidly evolving energy storage sector.

With increasing demand for grid flexibility, renewable energy integration, and energy resilience, large-scale battery storage projects are expected to become a cornerstone of the country’s clean energy transition.

The partnership with GUVNL not only strengthens Advait’s position in the energy storage market but also contributes to Gujarat’s efforts to build a smarter, more resilient, and sustainable power infrastructure for the future.
