Mumbai, Maharashtra | October 6, 2026 – Trentar, the technology and infrastructure arm of Dorf Ketal Group, plans to develop a 500 MW green integrated hyperscale data centre project in Maharashtra with a proposed investment of ₹30,000 crore ($3.3 billion).
The company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra for the proposed investment, marking Dorf Ketal Group’s planned expansion into large-scale digital infrastructure serving artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing workloads.
Under the agreement, the Maharashtra government will facilitate coordination related to applicable permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives, in line with prevailing policies and regulations.
The project has also received a Letter of Intent from the state, outlining the applicable support and incentives.
500 MW Data Centre Project Targets Renewable Energy
Trentar said the proposed hyperscale data centre is being designed with a target of sourcing at least 51% of its energy from renewable sources.
The company is also evaluating measures to improve resource efficiency at the proposed facility, including treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling technologies.
However, Trentar said the final technology choices will be determined following detailed design and feasibility studies.
The focus on renewable power and water efficiency reflects the increasing importance of energy and resource management in the development of large-scale data centre infrastructure.
Maharashtra Investment Targets AI and High-Performance Computing
The proposed project represents Dorf Ketal Group’s expansion into the rapidly growing digital infrastructure segment.
The company plans to develop the facility to support AI and high-performance computing (HPC) requirements, which are driving demand for increasingly large and power-intensive data centre infrastructure.
A 500 MW facility would represent a significant planned digital infrastructure investment, although the project remains subject to the development, design, feasibility and regulatory processes outlined under the MoU.
Dorf Ketal Brings Industrial Engineering Experience
Established in 1992, Dorf Ketal has built a global specialty-chemicals business serving demanding industrial applications.
The group has experience in areas including:
- Process engineering
- Utilities
- Thermal management
- Water treatment
- Energy efficiency
Trentar says this experience will support the development of the proposed integrated data centre project.
The combination of digital infrastructure with expertise in thermal management, water treatment and energy efficiency is intended to address some of the operational requirements associated with large-scale hyperscale facilities.
Data Centre Growth Meets Sustainability Requirements
As AI and high-performance computing expand, data centres are becoming increasingly important components of digital infrastructure while also placing greater demands on electricity, cooling and water resources.
Trentar’s proposed Maharashtra project seeks to address some of these requirements through a design target of 51% or more renewable energy, alongside the evaluation of water reuse and efficient cooling options.
The ₹30,000 crore investment, if developed as proposed, would add to Maharashtra’s growing digital infrastructure ecosystem and position Trentar to participate in the expansion of AI-ready and hyperscale computing capacity in India.
