The high-level visit underscores the growing importance of international collaboration in renewable energy, sustainable power generation, and emerging clean technology solutions as countries accelerate their energy transition efforts.

NTPC Showcases Innovation in Clean Energy and Sustainability

President Min Aung Hlaing was accompanied by a senior ministerial delegation from Myanmar during the visit. The delegation was welcomed by Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited, along with Shaswattam, Regional Executive Director and Head of NTPC NETRA, and other senior company officials.

During the interaction, NTPC leadership provided an overview of the company’s growth journey, its previous engagements in Myanmar, and its ongoing investments in research, innovation, and advanced clean energy technologies designed to support global decarbonization goals.

The discussions highlighted NTPC’s efforts to develop scalable energy solutions that can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Delegation Visits Advanced Energy Research Facilities

As part of the visit, the Myanmar delegation toured NETRA’s state-of-the-art research and development facilities, where several next-generation clean energy projects are being developed and tested.

Among the technologies showcased were:

  • A 4 MW / 1 MWh Solar Microgrid system
  • A 3 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System
  • NTPC’s Green Hydrogen Hub
  • Agricultural and Municipal Solid Waste Gasification-to-Power technology

These projects demonstrate NTPC’s growing capabilities across renewable energy generation, large-scale energy storage, hydrogen-based energy solutions, and waste-to-energy technologies.

The facilities also reflect India’s increasing focus on innovation-driven approaches to address energy security, sustainability, and climate challenges.

Focus on Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen

The visit provided Myanmar’s leadership with insights into India’s progress in renewable energy and emerging clean energy technologies.

Particular attention was given to NTPC’s work in green hydrogen production, which is increasingly viewed as a critical component of future low-carbon energy systems. Green hydrogen is expected to play a significant role in decarbonizing industries, transportation, and power generation over the coming decades.

The delegation also explored advanced battery storage solutions designed to improve grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

Strengthening India-Myanmar Energy Cooperation

According to NTPC, President Min Aung Hlaing expressed strong interest in the clean energy technologies being developed at NETRA and discussed opportunities for future collaboration between the two countries.

Potential areas of cooperation include:

  • Renewable energy project development
  • Technology transfer and knowledge sharing
  • Capacity building and technical training
  • Sustainable power generation initiatives
  • Clean energy infrastructure development
  • Emerging energy technologies

The discussions highlighted the potential for deeper engagement between India and Myanmar as both countries seek to strengthen energy security while advancing sustainability objectives.

India’s Growing Role in the Global Energy Transition

The visit also showcased India’s emergence as a global hub for clean energy innovation and sustainable technology development.

Through institutions such as NETRA, India is investing in advanced research across solar power, energy storage, green hydrogen, carbon reduction technologies, and circular economy solutions.

These efforts support the country’s broader renewable energy ambitions while creating opportunities for international partnerships focused on climate action and sustainable development.

International Collaboration Key to Sustainable Energy Future

As countries around the world accelerate their transition toward cleaner energy systems, international cooperation is becoming increasingly important for sharing expertise, scaling innovative technologies, and developing resilient energy infrastructure.

The visit by Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing to NTPC NETRA reflects the growing interest in India’s renewable energy capabilities and highlights the role of collaborative partnerships in advancing global sustainability goals.

With clean energy investment and technology development continuing to accelerate, initiatives such as these are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable power generation across Asia and beyond.
