The new company, Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, aims to provide cutting-edge water management technologies that support sustainable manufacturing while strengthening India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

Joint Venture to Support India’s Semiconductor Growth

The newly established joint venture brings together the complementary strengths of two leading companies in the water treatment sector.

Under the partnership:

  • Kurita Water Industries will hold a 51% stake
  • Membrane Group India will retain 49% ownership

The collaboration combines Kurita’s global expertise in advanced industrial water treatment with Membrane Group India’s engineering capabilities, manufacturing strength and project execution experience in the Indian market.

The companies plan to support semiconductor fabrication facilities, electronics manufacturers and other high-tech industries requiring ultra-high-quality water systems.

Rising Demand for Water Infrastructure

India’s semiconductor industry is projected to reach a value of US$120–150 billion by 2035, driven by increasing investments in chip manufacturing, electronics production and government-backed initiatives promoting domestic semiconductor fabrication.

Semiconductor manufacturing is among the world’s most water-intensive industries, requiring highly purified water throughout the production process.

The new joint venture aims to address this growing demand by offering advanced water treatment solutions that ensure consistent quality, operational efficiency and sustainable resource management.

Comprehensive Water Treatment Solutions

Kurita Membrane India will provide a broad portfolio of water management services tailored for semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing.

Its offerings will include:

  • Ultrapure water systems
  • Wastewater treatment solutions
  • Water recycling technologies
  • Resource recovery systems
  • Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) solutions

In addition to technology solutions, the company will deliver end-to-end project services covering:

  • Engineering and design
  • System installation
  • Commissioning
  • Operations and maintenance
  • Technical support

These integrated services are designed to help manufacturers improve water efficiency while meeting increasingly stringent environmental standards.

Advanced Ultrapure Water Analysis Centre

As part of its operations, Kurita Membrane India will establish an Advanced Ultrapure Water Analysis Centre.

The facility will provide customers with:

  • Water quality testing
  • Process monitoring
  • System optimisation
  • Technical analysis and consulting

The centre is expected to help semiconductor manufacturers maintain the exceptionally high water purity levels required during chip fabrication while improving operational performance.

Water Management Critical to Semiconductor Manufacturing

Commenting on the partnership, Peeyush Narang, Managing Director of Membrane Group India Pvt. Ltd., said India has a historic opportunity to establish itself as a global semiconductor manufacturing destination.

He noted that achieving this vision requires world-class infrastructure, with reliable water systems playing a central role.

According to Narang, the joint venture aims to ensure India’s semiconductor industry has access to globally competitive solutions for ultrapure water production, wastewater recycling and sustainable water management.

Supporting Sustainable Manufacturing

Beyond improving industrial water quality, the partnership also focuses on promoting sustainability across India’s manufacturing sector.

Technologies such as water recycling, resource recovery and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems can significantly reduce freshwater consumption while minimising industrial wastewater discharge.

As semiconductor manufacturing expands, sustainable water management is expected to become increasingly important for balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility.

Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

The launch of Kurita Membrane India aligns with India’s broader efforts to develop a resilient semiconductor supply chain supported by advanced infrastructure and specialised industrial services.

With investments flowing into semiconductor fabrication plants, electronics manufacturing and supporting industries, demand for reliable water treatment technologies is expected to grow significantly over the coming decade.

The partnership positions both companies to contribute to India’s manufacturing ambitions while supporting sustainable industrial development.

Outlook

The formation of Kurita Membrane India Private Limited represents an important step in strengthening the infrastructure needed for India’s semiconductor industry.

By combining global water treatment expertise with local engineering capabilities, the joint venture aims to deliver advanced, sustainable and efficient water management solutions that will help support the country’s long-term semiconductor and electronics manufacturing growth.

As India continues building its high-tech manufacturing ecosystem, investments in critical infrastructure such as ultrapure water systems and wastewater recycling will play an increasingly important role in ensuring the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability.
