Named Peninsula Carbon, the limited-edition watch incorporates captured carbon and recycled industrial carbon waste into its dial design, offering a unique perspective on the environmental impact of modern urban living.

The launch reflects a growing trend among premium brands exploring innovative ways to integrate sustainability, circular economy principles, and climate-conscious materials into consumer products.

Turning Recovered Carbon into a Luxury Timepiece

At the heart of the new watch is ReforgeCarbon, a proprietary material developed by Bangalore Watch Company specifically for the project.

The material is created by compressing carbon fibres with recovered carbon black (rCB) under high pressure, resulting in a lightweight, durable, and visually distinctive dial. Unlike traditional carbon fibre materials, each dial develops a unique texture and appearance, ensuring that no two watches are identical.

Recovered carbon black is produced by processing industrial waste and byproducts that would otherwise be incinerated or released into the atmosphere, helping divert carbon-rich materials from contributing to additional emissions.

The project was developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based material science company CarbonCraft, which specializes in converting captured carbon into sustainable products.

A Statement on Urban Carbon Emissions

According to Bangalore Watch Company, the Peninsula Carbon collection aims to draw attention to the growing environmental footprint of cities.

While urban areas occupy a relatively small portion of the Earth’s surface, they account for a disproportionately large share of global greenhouse gas emissions due to industrial activity, transportation, construction, and energy consumption.

The company said the watch is intended to serve as a conversation starter about the carbon consequences of modern lifestyles rather than simply a sustainability-focused product.

In a symbolic design choice, the traditional minute track has been replaced with a visual scale inspired by Air Quality Index (AQI) measurements. The display transitions from green at lower values to deep red at higher levels, mirroring the way air pollution is commonly represented.

Combining Sustainability with Luxury Craftsmanship

Beyond its environmental narrative, the Peninsula Carbon remains a high-end mechanical timepiece built to premium specifications.

Key features include:

  • 316L surgical-grade stainless steel case
  • Scratch-resistant super-domed sapphire crystal
  • Water resistance up to 200 meters
  • Swiss-made automatic mechanical movement
  • Precision regulation and testing in Bengaluru

The watch is designed to balance technical performance, durability, and contemporary design while showcasing innovative sustainable materials.

Limited Edition of 100 Pieces

Bangalore Watch Company has released the Peninsula Carbon as a highly exclusive limited edition consisting of just 100 individually numbered pieces.

Because each dial is created through a unique carbon compression process, every watch carries its own distinctive pattern and visual identity.

The company has priced the watch at ₹2.83 lakh, targeting collectors, watch enthusiasts, and consumers interested in sustainable luxury products.

Sustainability Innovation Expands into Consumer Products

The launch comes amid growing interest in carbon capture technologies and circular manufacturing practices across industries.

Businesses worldwide are increasingly exploring ways to repurpose carbon emissions and industrial waste into commercially viable products, ranging from construction materials and fashion accessories to consumer electronics and luxury goods.

By incorporating recovered carbon into a precision-engineered watch, Bangalore Watch Company is demonstrating how sustainability-focused innovation can extend beyond industrial applications and into premium consumer experiences.

About Bangalore Watch Company

Founded in 2018, Bangalore Watch Company has built a reputation for creating mechanical watches inspired by modern India’s achievements and cultural milestones.

The brand draws inspiration from sectors such as aviation, space exploration, sports, and the outdoors, blending storytelling with advanced engineering and craftsmanship.

Over the years, the company has introduced several innovative materials and concepts, including watches crafted from reclaimed aircraft components, spaceflight-qualified timepieces, and proprietary hybrid materials that combine steel and ceramic.

Today, the brand serves customers across more than 30 countries and has gained international recognition for its distinctive approach to contemporary watchmaking.

ESG World News Perspective

The Peninsula Carbon launch highlights an emerging intersection between sustainability, material innovation, and luxury manufacturing.

As companies seek new ways to communicate environmental challenges and promote circular economy principles, products made from recovered carbon and recycled materials may become increasingly common across premium consumer markets.

While the environmental impact of a single luxury product may be limited, initiatives like these help demonstrate how innovative material science can transform waste streams into high-value products while encouraging broader conversations about climate change, urban emissions, and sustainable consumption.
